ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) - Officials in Otero County say 911 emergency phone service in the Alamogordo area is partially disrupted because of damage to a fiber-optic line.

Officials say 911 calls in the Alamogordo area are being answered by dispatchers in Roswell, who then convey the necessary information to the appropriate responder agency in Alamogordo.

People with emergencies to report also can call Alamogordo-area responder agencies on their administrative phone lines.

The outage began Monday afternoon and city spokeswoman Megan Wade says the problem continues Tuesday morning, with no definite word on when normal service will be restored.
