COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Columbus Blue Jackets have extended their agreement with the Springfield Falcons for the club to serve as the organization’s American Hockey League affiliate through the 2015-16 season with an option for two additional years.

The Massachusetts club is entering its 21st AHL season and has served as the top affiliate of the Blue Jackets since 2010-11. The Falcons have won division titles the past two seasons.

The AHL has been a part of the greater Springfield area since 1936 as the Springfield Indians. In 1994, the franchise was sold and moved to Worcester, Massachusetts, and Springfield was awarded an expansion franchise that same year.
