PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - The Institute for Principled Leadership in Public Service at Bradley University plans to honor former congressman and U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

The university said in a news release Monday that LaHood will receive an award for his leadership at a dinner on Sept. 27 in Peoria.

LaHood is a Republican from Peoria. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 until 2009 and was President Obama’s transportation secretary from 2009 through 2013.

LaHood is also a Bradley graduate.

The Institute for Principled Leadership in Public Service says on its website that it works to encourage civic engagement among Bradley students and train students for careers in public service.
