ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - The Supreme Court of Virginia has appointed a Fairfax County judge who presided over the trial of D.C. sniper Lee Boyd Malvo to oversee the murder trial of a man accused of three slayings in Alexandria.

The Washington Post reported Tuesday (https://wapo.st/1rmsuCK ) that Jane Marum Roush was appointed to oversee the upcoming murder trial of Charles Severance.

The judges in Alexandria recused themselves because one of the shooting victims, Ruthanne Lodato, was the brother of a retired judge there.

Severance is accused in the 2003 slaying of Nancy Dunning, last year’s killing of Ronald Kirby and the Lodato’s slaying earlier this year.

In 2003, Roush oversaw the Malvo trial, in which the teenager was sentenced to life in prison for a series of shootings that terrorized the D.C. region.
