LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Former state lawmaker Tracy Steele is resigning as the director of the Arkansas Department of Human Services’ Division of Youth Services.

Steele announced Tuesday that he will leave his position Oct. 31 to take another job. He said he would announce details of the new job at a later date.

Steele was hired as the Youth Services director in July 2013. The division oversees several programs dealing with juvenile offenders and is responsible for eight facilities and contracts with a number of community programs across the state.

Steele, a Democrat, has served in both the Arkansas House and Senate.

Department of Human Services Deputy Director Keesa Smith will serve as interim director during a search for Steele’s replacement.
