HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island police officer suffered a serious head injury when he was struck by a vehicle he was trying to pull over.

Police say 36-year-old Officer Nicholas Guerrero and his partner were attempting to stop the car to serve an arrest warrant in Huntington at about 1:30 p.m. Monday when they were struck.

The four-year veteran is hospitalized in critical condition. His partner, Officer Heriberto Lugo, suffered minor injuries and was treated and released.

Police say two suspects in the vehicle were arrested about two hours later inside a Target in Central Islip after striking another vehicle and stealing a car from a woman in Commack.

Thirty-four-year-old Chad Morizsan and 22-year-old Nicholas Franzone, both of Northport, will be arraigned in Central Islip court Tuesday in connection with the incident.
