OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A one-time legal adviser to Martin Luther King Jr. will be the featured speaker at an event at Oklahoma City University.

Marian Wright Edelman will deliver a lecture Wednesday as part of the university’s distinguished speakers series. The speech will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center. It is free and open to the public.

The first black woman admitted to the Mississippi Bar, Edelman worked for the NAACP before joining the staff of the famous civil rights leader in the 1960s.

A longtime advocate for disadvantaged Americans, Edelman is the founder and president of the Washington, D.C.-based Children’s Defense Fund.
