WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. (AP) - Authorities in southern New Jersey say a 24-year-old man was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot when a SWAT team entered the home after remaining outside for nearly 12 hours after hearing a gunshot.

West Deptford police said a fugitive task force arrived at the home around 1:20 p.m. Monday to serve a warrant on William Schickel. Police said they then heard a gunshot come from the basement and retreated from the home.

They entered the home around 1 a.m. Tuesday and found him dead.

Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld says Schickel was wanted on a parole violation from a burglary conviction. He also was also a suspect in another burglary in which a gun was taken.
