COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Police say a tow-truck driver hooking up a vehicle at the side of the central Ohio highway was struck and killed by a car that went out of control.

Columbus police say it happened Monday night on westbound State Route 104 as 59-year-old John Carpenter was preparing to tow a vehicle. He was struck by a car driven by 31-year-old Brian Spencer, and was dead at the scene.

Spencer’s car also struck the tow truck, the disabled vehicle and two other vehicles parked along the road. None of the three people in those vehicles was seriously injured.

Police said the tow truck had its lights flashing when the crash occurred.

Spencer was taken to a hospital in stable condition. The investigation is continuing.
