SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police in South Burlington, Vermont, say a woman who was crossing a street has been struck and killed by a vehicle.

Police said the accident happened at about 8:30 p.m. Monday as the woman was crossing from the north to the south on Willison Road from the Sheraton Hotel, in the direction of Staples Plaza. An eastbound vehicle stuck her.

The driver stopped and called 911. The woman was taken to the Fletcher Allen Health Care emergency room, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police have not released their names.

They said alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash.
