SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A man accused of stabbing a Sioux Falls woman to death in April has changed his plea to guilty.

Forty-two-year-old John Senn has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the killing of 53-year-old Brenda Hansen. Senn in May had pleaded not guilty to various charges by reason of insanity.

Authorities have said Senn took prescription painkillers from Hansen and argued with the woman before stabbing her. Police say Senn and Hansen knew each other.

Prosecutor Tom Wollman on Tuesday during a hearing in Lincoln County said Hansen’s family is still grieving and “didn’t have the stamina” to prepare victim impact statements.

Senn was immediately sentenced to life in prison. He was ordered to pay attorney fees and restitution to the state’s victim compensation fund and to Hansen’s sister.
