GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say two people had to be rescued from the Niagara River after they were thrown from their motor boat as it made a turn.

Fire officials tell local media that a man and woman from Niagara Falls were boating Tuesday afternoon off Grand Island when the man lost control of the vessel while trying to make a turn.

Both were ejected into the water. A passing boater called Niagara County 911 dispatchers to report a boat spinning out of control with two people in the water.

Another boater pulled the man and woman from the water as marine emergency crews rushed to the scene. Both were treated for exposure.

Emergency crews secured the boat and brought it to shore.
