CARP LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have identified a driver who died after a crash that sparked a fire and destroyed two buildings in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula.

The Petoskey News-Review reports (https://bit.ly/ZdijG8 ) 29-year-old Jason Wentz of Carp Lake died in the crash about 3 a.m. Tuesday in Emmet County’s Carp Lake Township, about 75 miles northeast of Traverse City.

The car hit a home and the fire engulfed that building and a neighboring building that had been an antiques store. His 22-year-old girlfriend was the passenger. Authorities say she got out of the wreckage and called 911. She was taken to a hospital with injuries including burns.

Crews worked for about two hours to put out the fire. Duncan says the body of the driver was found inside the home, which was used seasonally.
