ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (AP) - A Chinese-owned diesel engine manufacturer will expand in Rolling Meadows and add 32 full-time jobs, officials said Tuesday.

Weichai (WEE’-chye) America Corp. officials said the company will spend at least $8 million on improvements and equipment purchases at its Golf Road location. In addition 32 new employees within two years, expansion will result in the retention of 21 others.

Weichai America considered moving the operation to Ontario, Canada. But company officials said they would stay in Illinois because of its central location and high-skilled workforce.

The expansion was subsidized by a $1.1 million incentive package from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The amount serves as a credit against its state income tax liability under the state’s Economic Development for a Growing Economy program. The state agency requires companies to meet agreed-upon targets for job-creation or retention and capital investments to receive the credit.

The package also includes $10,000 for job training.

Weichai America is part of Weichai Group, a manufacturer of engines and other parts for cars, trucks and yachts.
