CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - Enrollment at Southeast Missouri State University has topped 12,000 for the first time.

The Cape Girardeau-based university says official enrollment for the fall semester is 12,087, topping last year’s record of 11,917 students. Officials say this marks the 20th year of consecutive enrollment growth.

Beginning freshman enrollment reached 1,849 students, up 6.9 percent from a year ago. Total graduate student enrollment is 1,239 today, up 6.6 percent from last fall.
