DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - Dearborn police say a 77-year-old man working inside a vacant house he owned was critically injured in a natural gas explosion.

The department says in a statement that authorities got a call late Wednesday morning about an explosion at a house in the Detroit suburb.

Fire Chief Joseph Murray says firefighters found the man in the front yard with severe burns. He was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital.

Police say the man was working on the stove when the explosion happened. They didn’t immediately identify him.
