LE MARS, Iowa (AP) - Glada Koerselman, a journalist whose career in Le Mars stretched over more than 60 years, died Monday at age 84.

Koerselman died at a Le Mars care center after a brief battle with cancer, according to the Le Mars Daily Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1mTwpqY ).

The Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home said a service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

Koerselman worked at the Daily Sentinel from 1950 to 1986 and was editor during most of that time. After she left the Daily Sentinel, she published a weekly newsletter that focused on Plymouth County courthouse news.

Former colleagues of Koerselman recalled she demanded stories be accurate, thorough and clear.

Kathy Faber, who worked as a reporter and later editor of the Daily Sentinel, noted Koerselman was a lifelong resident of Le Mars who “truly cherished her community, the people in it and the issues we all have to deal with.”
