MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Myrtle Beach property owners will be paying more in taxes to help cover security during the Atlantic Beach Bikefest on Memorial Day weekend.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (https://bit.ly/1B6y3pP ) that the city council approved the tax increase Tuesday. The property tax increase will amount to about $16 on a home worth $200,000.

The increase will help pay for a new $1.6 million security plan the city plans to put into effect next Memorial Day.

Three people were killed and seven wounded in shootings last Memorial Day weekend in communities outside Atlantic Beach during the long weekend that includes Bikefest.

Gov. Nikki Haley plans to meet with Atlantic Beach officials Thursday to discuss Bikefest.
