TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Topeka police detained a naked, blood-covered man on Wednesday after neighbors reported that he had been running around outside, screaming, and they found the woman with whom he lived lying dead outside their home.

Police identified the woman as Lacie Atchison, 22, of Topeka, and said her death is being investigated as a homicide, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported (https://bit.ly/1B86Ino ). A young girl was found uninjured at the home and was placed in protective custody.

According to police Lt. Chuck Haggard, it took several officers to subdue the man, and they eventually had to use a stun gun on him. The man was questioned by police after he was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

The woman was found dead at the top of a wooden wheelchair ramp that leads to the home where she and the man lived, according to neighbors. Blood could be seen smeared across a large area on the southwest portion of the house, and officers were keeping people well away from what they described as a graphic crime scene.

Police said the naked man assaulted an older neighbor who apparently had come outside to check on all the commotion, but he wasn’t seriously hurt.
