TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - North Lee Water Association will pay $8,000 in owed overtime to 16 employees over a two-year period.

An investigation began in May by the federal government following a report of an audit of North Lee had revealed financial mismanagement, sloppy record keeping and serious concerns financial accountability.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1uGonAc ) investigators determined North Lee owed employees $8,009 in total overtime back wages from May 4, 2012 to May 1, 2014.

Department of Labor spokesman Michael D’Aquino says North Lee agreed to pay back wages and ensure future compliance with federal labor laws.

North Lee attorney Bill Beasley says the audit findings have been settled for the amount reflected in the report and the water association is currently in full compliance with all Department of Labor regulations.
