NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is touting the liberal values he shares with the United Kingdom’s Labour Party.

De Blasio was invited to speak to the party’s annual conference on Wednesday in Manchester, England.

The mayor saluted the party’s leader, Ed Miliband, and predicted the party would do well in next year’s elections.

He repeatedly mentioned his own journey from underdog candidate last year to mayor of the United States’ largest city.

He extolled his administration’s accomplishments, including establishing universal pre-kindergarten and paid sick days legislation.

And de Blasio said one of the globe’s most worrisome problems is rising income inequality.

De Blasio has recently begun appearing on larger political stages to spread his views of a liberal activist government.
