TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) - Oklahoma authorities are investigating the death of a 53-year-old man who died in an eastern Oklahoma jail.

Police Chief Nate King tells the Tahlequah Daily Press (https://bit.ly/1yqDVOG ) he believes Jerry Batt died of natural causes on Monday at the Tahlequah City Jail.

King says Batt went to bed around midnight and was later discovered dead. Batt had assisted with a cleanup at the jail before his death.

The state medical examiner is performing an autopsy. King says the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is helping city authorities look into the death.

It’s unclear how long Batt had been in the jail or why he was arrested.
