STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (AP) - Police have cited a Stewartville parent on a weapons violation after they say he brought a concealed handgun onto elementary school grounds.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Claymon tells KTTC-TV (https://bit.ly/1ypdzfW ) Tuesday that the Bonner Elementary School principal escorted the 29-year-old man off school property on Friday before notifying authorities. He says the man had a permit for the handgun, but all guns are prohibited on school property.

A school bus driver notified school officials that he had the gun. Claymon says this is the second time the bus driver noticed the man with something that appeared to be a gun. He says the driver didn’t report it the first time because he wasn’t sure it was a gun.

The station reports the school superintendent was unavailable to comment Tuesday.
