LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - Authorities say that the boyfriend of a pregnant woman who was struck and killed by a sports utility vehicle will be charged with murder.

State police say 33-year-old Evaristo Deus (DOOSE) of Lewiston was taken into custody by the New York Port Authority on Wednesday after boarding a plane that was leaving for Haiti. Police are sending two detectives to New York to question Deus and work on bringing him back to Maine, where they say he will be charged with murder.

Deus’ 32-year-old girlfriend, Laudrinha Kubeloso, was struck Tuesday by an SUV and pronounced dead at a local hospital. She was four months pregnant and had moved from Angola to Lewiston during the past year.

Police say they’re investigating the case as a domestic violence death.
