HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - A Hilton Head Island church plans to appeal a decision allowing a dog kennel next to its sanctuary.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (bit.ly/1xevBQP) the town on Tuesday approved plans allowing the Red Rover Inn to open next to the Church of Christ.

The church attorney plans to appeal to state court, saying the congregation is worried about noise and the smell of a kennel.

Church elder Joe Hendrix said the congregation will be in the position of hearing dogs barking when they want to listen to their minister.

But Paige Grisette she plans a 6-foot privacy fence to prevent dogs from seeing people passing by and barking. She says no dogs will be allowed outside during Sunday services.
