ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - An unknown substance mailed to a Tampa Bay area veterans hospital led to a partial evacuation and decontamination of several employees.

Officials said the substance was discovered by a hospital employee on Wednesday.

A hazardous materials unit - already at the C.W. Bill Young V.A. Medical Center at Bay Pines for a preplanned emergency drill - obtained a sample of the substance for testing. The sample was sent to a laboratory in Tampa, and results of the test were expected later Wednesday.

Authorities could not describe the substance or say whom the envelope was addressed to or if there was return address. The FBI, the Department of Veterans Affairs and Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
