SELMA, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama newspaper executive has been named editor of The Selma Times-Journal.

The newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1tZbljv) that Justin Averette comes to the position from The Demopolis Times, where he was publisher. The Selma and Demopolis newspapers are both affiliated with Boone Newspapers Inc. of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Averette is a native of Greensboro, Alabama. He has been publisher of The Demopolis Times since June 2012. He has also been managing editor of The Clanton Advertiser and news editor of the Shelby County Reporter in Columbiana, Alabama. Both are affiliated with Boone Newspapers Inc.

Averette is a 2006 graduate of the University of Montevallo, where he earned degrees in journalism and English.

Averette will begin work in Selma on Monday.
