BUTTERNUT, Wis. (AP) - A Wisconsin man has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son.

Authorities charged 27-year-old Duane Amos Jr. of Butternut this week after he brought the boy to a Park Falls hospital on Aug. 26. The charges say the boy was in full cardiac-respiratory arrest. He later died of his injuries.

The Dane County Medical Examiner says he showed signs of child abuse including bruising indicating strangulation and head trauma consistent with non-accidental violent shaking. The examiner says the injuries occurred shortly before he was taken to the hospital.

Amos tells police that the boy had fallen out of bed that night and had fallen on a playground eight days earlier.

He is being held on $200,000 bond. It wasn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.
