WILSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) - A neglected and chilly python found with a Washington state couple arrested on drug charges has gotten a gentle warm-up.

Police in Wilsonville, south of Portland, say the 2-foot ball python was curled in a sealed plastic tub when they searched a car Wednesday. Police said they also found heroin and methamphetamine.

The snake was turned over to Mary Hart of Molalla, who works with International Reptile Rescue.

She says it was suffocating, and its body was cold and triangular when it should have been warm and round.

“You could see its backbone,” she told The Oregonian (https://bit.ly/1su2gAC).

Police jailed 22-year-old Lacey Kiser of Marysville and 19-year-old Jacob Stoner of Arlington on drug charges. Stoner faces an animal abuse count. Police said they were driving to a California rehab program.
