JENNINGS, La. (AP) - Jefferson Davis Parish District 13 Police Jury Leonard Dupuis has resigned.

The American Press (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb ) Dupuis resignation was effective Sept. 15.

The Police Jury has declared the seat vacant and is expected to appoint a new police juror by Oct. 13.

Dupuis, who had served as a police juror since January 2012, has been working and spending much of his time on the job in Texas.

Since fewer than 18 months remain in Dupuis’ current term, the Police Jury will not have to call a special election to fill the post.

Someone would be appointed to serve the remainder of Dupuis’ term. That person could seek a full term in 2015.

The district includes Lacassine (lah-kuh-SEEN’).
