VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - A Warren County man is scheduled for sentencing Oct. 8 after being convicted this week of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl in 2011.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Kenny Cordell Stewart was convicted in Warren County for sexual battery of a child younger than 14 and molestation.

Assistant District Attorney Angela tells The Vicksburg Post (https://bit.ly/1rvIGlx ) that sexual battery of a child younger than 14 carries a sentence of up to life in prison and molestation carries a sentence of 15 years.

Carpenter says the victim, who was 9 at the time of the abuse and is now 11, testified at the trial.

Authorities say the girl’s mother caught Stewart molesting the girl on Aug. 2, 2013, and called police. Stewart had been babysitting the girl while the mother was at work.
