WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) - Police say a 35-year-old pedestrian was critically injured after she was hit by a vehicle in Westerly.

Police said Thursday they responded around 1:45 p.m. to Oak Street near Spuchy Drive and found a woman lying in the middle of the road with serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 50-year-old man, was also there. Authorities said it appears his vehicle was going west on Oak Street and hit the woman while she was in the road.

She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries that were described as life-threatening. Neither she nor the driver were identified. Both are from Westerly.

Police said they wouldn’t immediately release additional information. The accident is under investigation.
