OBERLIN, La. (AP) - Former Oberlin Mayor Rick Smith has been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing after an eight month state police investigation.

Allen Parish District Attorney Todd Nesom told the American Press (https://bit.ly/T7XPJY ) Thursday that police found the allegations against Smith to be unfounded.

Nesom says they could not substantiate any of the allegations against Smith regarding the use of town employees and equipment on private property and paying an employee for questionable hours worked.

He resigned as mayor in January.

Smith had denied any wrongdoing.
