DERBY, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say a Newport woman tried to break into a Derby convenience store with a gun and then led police on a chase across the border into Canada.

Police say 31-year-old Valentina Velasquez was arrested in Quebec on Friday morning. Authorities say a Canadian police cruiser was rammed during the pursuit.

Spike strips were used to stop the vehicle.

Police say Velasquez had a firearm when she was arrested and the vehicle was stolen from a home in Newport where she had been staying.

Velasquez will be charged with attempted burglary, motor vehicle larceny, attempting to elude and careless and negligent driving in Vermont. She faces charges of armed assault, impaired and dangerous driving and flight from a peace officer in Canada, where she was being held.
