LIBERTY, Miss. (AP) - Amite County Chancery Clerk Ronny Taylor has announced he won’t run for re-election next year.

Taylor’s current term ends in January 2016. He will have served as clerk for 20 years.

Taylor tells the Enterprise-Journal (https://bit.ly/Zke8IG ) he wanted to make the announcement ahead of time in case there are any interested candidates.

The qualifying deadline for next year’s county and state elections is in March.

By the end of the year, his office will be one of the first in the state to have completely digitized all land deeds. Taylor says in increased interest in oil exploration has prompted people to pour over land deeds and maintaining up-to-date records is essential.
