POLKTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - An autopsy shows a woman whose body was found in the Grand River in western Michigan suffered head injuries and was dumped in the water.

The Grand Rapids Press reports that the woman is believed to be a 72-year-old Coopersville resident who was reported missing Monday afternoon by her son.

Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Two men discovered the body in a few feet of water as they launched a fishing boat about 10 a.m. Monday in Polkton Township, northwest of Grand Rapids.

Police don’t believe the body was in the water over an extended period of time.
