JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say the death of a man found shot in Jackson is being investigated as a homicide.

Jackson police Deputy Chief John Holda tells the Jackson Citizen Patriot (https://bit.ly/1vr65Vo ) that 20-year-old Phillip Johnson Jr. was taken to a hospital around 3:20 a.m. Monday with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Holda says Johnson was later pronounced dead.

Police said Johnson’s uncle was asleep in an upstairs bedroom when he heard the gunshot. The man found Johnson in the living room and called 911.

Holda tells WILX-TV that the uncle said “he heard some kind of noise, scuffle or whatever, just before hearing the gunshot.”

No suspects have been identified.

WILX-TV reports that Johnson was an aspiring rapper who performed under the name “PhilGood.”
