BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Police say a 10-year-old girl visiting a Bloomfield cemetery was injured when she was struck by a stolen car.

Police say 18-year-old Frederick Sowell jumped into the car while the driver was visiting the offices at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery Sunday afternoon.

They say he began driving erratically across the lawn and over grave markers. The young girl was with a group of people visiting a grave when she was struck. Police say she was transported to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center with what appeared to be minor injuries.

Police say other mourners followed the car and were able to detain Sowell at the cemetery exit. He faces numerous charges including carjacking and risk of injury. He was being held Monday in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
