MERRILL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A 36-year-old western Michigan man faces charges in the fatal hit-and-run death of a pedestrian.

MLive.com reports (https://bit.ly/1rwpGSg ) Monday that the man will be arraigned Oct. 6 in Newaygo County District Court. He is from Brohman, north of Grand Rapids. His name was not released.

His employer told police the man said he had hit a deer Wednesday morning.

Sheriff’s Lt. Chad Palmiter tells MLive.com that no reports of crashes involving deer were taken the morning 61-year-old Steve Jones was struck and killed while walking in Merrill Township.

The sheriff’s office has said Jones was the driver of a SUV in a July 9 crash that killed bicyclist Jeff Dykehouse, a Grand Rapids photographer. Jones had not been charged in the July crash.
