The mother of a West Virginia girl who was raped after an alcohol-fueled party in eastern Ohio says her daughter showed bravery even as she and her family were harassed and threatened.

The girl’s fight to press charges led to the convictions of two Steubenville football players more than a year ago.

Her mother spoke this weekend at an event celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Rape Treatment Center in Beverly Hills, California.

She told those at the event including Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and David Schwimmer that her daughter’s strength and grace in handling a horrible situation has been inspiring.

The girl’s mother says her daughter unknowingly stood up for other rape victims who are unable tell their stories.
