DERIDDER, La. (AP) - State police say a 38-year-old DeRidder man dead after the vehicle he was a passenger in struck a cow in Beauregard Parish.

Sgt. James Anderson says the accident happened Sunday night on Louisiana Highway 112 about 10 miles east of DeRidder.

Anderson says a 13-year-old unlicensed driver was driving a pickup that struck a cow standing in the roadway. After striking the cow, Anderson says the driver lost control of the vehicle, traveled off the roadway, and struck a tree.

Anderson says a passenger in the vehicle, Jason Mitchell Brooks, died in the crash. The 13-year-old driver and a 16-year-old passenger were taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries. He says no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
