PORTLAND, Ind. (AP) - An eastern Indiana prosecutor says remains discovered earlier this month are those of a woman who has been missing 2½ months and the focus of multiple searches.

Jay County Prosecutor Wes Schemenaur (SHEH’-meh-now-ehr) said Monday evening that DNA tests confirmed the remains were those of 25-year-old Brianna DiBattiste of Dunkirk.

The Star Press reported (https://tspne.ws/1pmUAtb ) it might be several more weeks before tests that could reveal the cause of DiBattiste’s death are completed.

The remains were found Sept. 1 near a pioneer cemetery in a wooded area owned by the Jay County Conservation Club, located about 50 miles south of Fort Wayne.

DiBattiste was last seen by her mother on June 16. A multi-department investigation included searches of a Muncie home, a Grant County nature preserve and Henry County locations.
