NEWPORT, Del. (AP) - Police say two people are injured after a fiery crash on Interstate 95 near Newport.

Delaware State Police say the crash occurred about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday when 26-year-old Matthew Brown of Newark apparently tried to pass slower moving traffic by driving on the left shoulder of the roadway. Brown’s vehicle struck a disabled van that was parked on the shoulder.

After the crash, police say Brown’s vehicle became engulfed in flames.

Rescuers removed Brown from the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the disabled van also was taken to a hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
