ST. JOHNS, Mich. (AP) - A former Central Michigan Railway line between Ionia and Owosso is being converted into a nearly $5.3 million recreational trail.

The Lansing State Journal reports (https://on.lsj.com/1rmfzAt ) that work on the Fred Meijer Clinton-Ionia-Shiawassee Rail Trail is expected to be complete in October.

The 41.3-mile non-motorized trail will allow walkers, runners and bicyclists to travel between Ionia and Owosso while also passing through St. Johns, Ovid and other communities. It includes asphalt pavement in cities and villages and crushed limestone in rural areas.
