LOS ANGELES (AP) - A convicted sex offender has been charged with posing as an undercover police officer and raping a woman in Torrance.

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/1vNlSQI ) 43-year-old Guy Allen Dietz is accused of attacking the woman at a home on Thursday.

Prosecutors say Dietz presented a badge and handcuffs and claimed to be an undercover police officer.

Dietz escaped to Monterey County, where he is accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase Friday before being apprehended.

The Calabasas resident was free on bail in a separate case in which he was charged with failing to register as a sex offender in connection with a 1998 rape conviction.
