GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - A former bank employee in Lincolnton has been accused of taking $2,000 from a man’s account and then blaming another customer.

The Gaston Gazette reported (https://bit.ly/1un1K4O ) that 33-year-old Jeffrey Dean Etchison of Stanley has been charged with embezzlement, identity theft, forgery and obtaining property by false pretense.

Investigators said Etchison worked at Fifth Third Bank in Lincolnton.

He’s accused of forging a savings account withdrawal form on Aug. 15 and taking the man’s money.

Police said when they questioned Etchison, he indicated another customer had taken the victim’s money.

Police later determined that man was a witness rather than a suspect.

It was not clear if Etchison has an attorney.
