CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago sporting goods store has handed over to the city’s Little League champions $164,481 raised from T-shirt sales.
Dick’s Sporting Goods handed a check Wednesday to the Jackie Robinson West Little League baseball program.
Dick’s officials say the store started with 300 shirts after the team qualified for the World Series tournament. Those sold out in a matter of days. Following shipments of that T-shirt left the shelves in hours.
Store officials say a shipment of 7,000 Jackie Robinson West All Stars “National Champions” T-shirts sold out in less than a day.
Jackie Robinson West director William Haley says the outpouring of donations has been a big surprise. He says the money will be used to benefit the league, not just one team.
Dicks has stopped selling the shirts.
