MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Morgantown’s City Council has banned heavy trucks in the city’s downtown business district.

The ban goes into effect in 90 days.

Media outlets report that council members approved the ban Tuesday. The ban applies to commercial motor vehicles with a gross weight exceeding 26,000 pounds that have a class seven or greater rating.

There are several exemptions, including trucks making deliveries, emergency or military vehicles and solid waste disposal vehicles.

The advocacy group Safe Streets Morgantown proposed the ban.
