JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - A free public open house is scheduled to take place on the Coast Guard cutter Healy in Juneau before the polar icebreaker departs for its Seattle homeport.

The crew of the Healy is planning to host the open house between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday at the cruise ship terminal. The 420-foot vessel is scheduled to arrive in Juneau Thursday.

Coast Guard officials say crew members of the Healy will be available to answer questions about the vessel, as well as operations this summer in the Arctic Ocean.

Officials say the ship has been involved in operations in the Chukchi and Bering seas, and the Arctic Ocean.

Officials say crew members were involved in three scientific missions over the past four months.

The icebreaker is scheduled to depart Sunday.
