NEW ORLEANS (AP) - An Orleans Parish sheriff’s deputy and a 65-year-old woman have been hurt in a traffic accident but authorities say neither of their injuries are believed to be life threatening.

A sheriff’s office news release says 34-year-old Deputy Jude Harris was injured Wednesday in the wreck as was the woman, whose name was not released.

Both were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Information on their conditions was not immediately available.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/1qcPdAI ) firefighters had to pry open the crushed driver’s side door of a marked police unit to get to Harris. Authorities tell the newspaper Harris appears to have crashed into a sport utility vehicle, which was badly damaged, before running into the neutral ground on Earhart Boulevard.

The accident happened about 11:30 a.m.
